It’s true! In today’s world we are faced with a significant demographic shift towards an ‘ageing population’. This shift has affected many businesses and trades, but none as significantly as the health care industry. As a result of this trend, the need for regulated and unregulated staff in the health care sector has escalated and Certified Caregiver / Personal Support Workers (CPSW) are now in high demand. This new and rewarding profession may just be the perfect career for you.

CPSWs play a critical role in the health care system by providing in home services and caring activities to older individuals who wish to live independently. The job of a Certified Caregiver / Personal Support Worker includes that of a home maker, social worker and nurse, and requires both formal and informal care-giving support.

Most certified CPSWs will tell you that this job is increasingly gratifying and that they feel blessed to be a small part in making someone else’s life that much better each day. “Where else can you work where you get the satisfaction that you encouraged someone to maintain their independence? To see the smile on a client’s face when you go to their home to help with personal care… [it’s] a wonderful feeling,” describes one woman about her profession as a Certified Personal Support Worker

The emotional satisfaction of helping others, however, is only one benefit to this line of work. Qualified CPSW graduates become experts in inter-related health care services, such as illness prevention, health promotion, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and social adaptation and integration, through meeting the needs of clients in an individualized and comprehensive manner that goes way beyond the physical and mental health care of patients.

In order to succeed in this occupation, CPSWs must have both specific and clinical competencies and are also required to possess teaching skills, problem solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and sustain a self directed work style.

Certified workers are highly qualified and knowledgeable in health care administration and are very professional and competent when dealing with the tasks at hand. In order to ensure that this professionalism and competency is adhered to, the NACPSW (National Association of Cerified Caregivers / Personal Support Workers) has placed high standards and testing on all practicing workers. Before any Personal Support Worker can enter the field they must first meet and pass the expectations of this Association. This is essential and can only be accomplished through the proper training and education.

The first step toward meeting these requirements is finding a school that offers the best programs, courses, training, and learning environment that will augment existing skills and provide the strongest education. The Creative Career System - Job Skills Academy is aware that certification as a Caregiver/Personal Support Worker is a process of recognized professionalism and requires ongoing educational credits accepted by the NACPSW.

Gail Acton, co-owner of Creative Career System Inc., brings over 30 years of experience to the school and has worked in business, healthcare, education and government sectors. She is well aware of the requirements of the NACPSW and advocates for high standards in the delivery of health care education. Gail states that, “the standards and competency in health related tasks requires qualifications, experience and qualities appropriate to the duties performed. These attributes include training, knowledge, and understanding of working practices, communication skills and appreciation of personal limits. Most important as a CPSW is Competency.”

Teaching Health Care Competency is at the forefront of the Creative Career Systems training program and is administered through the ‘CPSW Program for International Caregivers’ - a curriculum designed by the school. CCS provides hands-on training and intensive module courses that are designed to raise awareness of the high standards of the NACPSW and help students meet and surpass these standards.

By enrolling in the CCS CPSW program students will not only receive the best possible training to meet specific needs, help expand skills, build confidence and lead to overall success as a Personal Support Worker, but they will also achieve membership at the NASCPW; thereby affirming professional status, staying informed on current Health Care issues, and increasing employment opportunities.

The world is shifting towards an older population. New opportunities have arrived. Now is the time to make your mark in the Health Care industry. CCS can help you achieve success in this meaningful, profitable career.
