Certified Dental Assistant

The curriculum is a mix of dental science and interpersonal communication. Once completed, you will be qualified to work under the supervision of a dentist, setting up equipment and assisting during the treatment of the patient. You may also perform some simple dental procedures on your own. Clerical work will be required. Dental care is a rapidly evolving profession. You should be committed to life-long learning. Child and Youth Care

This diploma program is designed for those who wish to work in the field of child and youth care in a variety of social service and community-related agencies. Individuals working in the field of child and youth care support children, youth and their families as they deal with life issues, which have created disruption in their lives. Child and youth care work focuses on the development of behavioral, emotional, social, physical, intellectual, and cultural growth. Stenberg College's Diploma in Child and Youth Care provides education, research and professional development for the care of children, youth, families and their communities. Community Health Care

The Community Health Care Diploma program is a combination of our Resident Care Attendant and Community Support Worker/Special Needs Assistant programs. Graduates of the Community Support Worker/Special Needs Assistant program assist individuals who suffer from a mental illness and assist people with developmental disabilities. Resident care attendants assist the elderly. Combining both programs allows you to develop career flexibility and widen your choices for employment once you graduate. You will be able to work in extended and intermediate care facilities, home support agencies, community living associations, as well as mental health societies, both residential and clubhouses. Community Support Worker

The program will make you ready for employment in residential, day-program settings for developmentally and psychiatrically disabled adults. The community support worker assists people with developmental disabilities to live as fully and independently as possible. Some of the areas that the program will cover are lift and transfer theory, personal care and alternative communications. This 33-week diploma program is designed for those who wish to work in the field of esthetics in a spa, or in beauty product sales. Individuals working in the field of esthetics provide services such as facials, waxing, manicures and pedicures, and make-up application. Hospital Support Specialist

If you are looking for an exciting career working in a hospital environment, this program will provide you with rewarding opportunities to work with a team of health care professionals. You will learn the administrative support skills necessary to work in a wide variety of hospital departments. You will be prepared for entry-level employment as an admitting/registration clerk, diagnostic imaging clerk, staffing clerk, payroll clerk, medical transcriptionist, hospital switchboard operator, accounts payable clerk and medical secretary. Medical Esthetics Practitioner

This 48-week diploma program is designed for those who wish to work in the fields of esthetics or medical esthetics in a spa, medical spa or cosmetic surgery practice. Individuals working in the field of medical esthetics provide advanced esthetic services such as micropigmentation (permanent makeup), microdermabrasion, skin electrotherapy and ultrasound procedures, and assist the cosmetic surgeon with patient education and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. The curriculum includes experiential lectures and workshops facilitated by qualified medical esthetics specialists and guest speakers from cosmetic surgery practice. Three streams within the MEP program are available:

Medical Esthetics Practitioner for the Medical Professional

This 32-week diploma program is designed for those with professional medical training who wish to work in the fields of esthetics or medical esthetics in a spa, medical spa or cosmetic surgery practice. This 18-week diploma program is designed for those with professional esthetcian training who wish to work in the field of medical esthetics in a spa, medical spa or cosmetic surgery practice. Medical Laboratory Assistant

Having completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant program at Stenberg College, graduates will be fully prepared to start their career in either public or private laboratory facilities. Medical laboratory assistants are clinical support staff. They perform work that helps doctors diagnose and treat diseases. About 80 to 90 per cent of a medical laboratory assistant’s work involves blood collection. Our curriculum exceed the British Columbia Society of Laboratory Science standards in a number of areas and include such topics as medical and legal ethics, anatomy and physiology, asepsis, blood collection, haematology and pathology. Medical Office Transcriptionist

A medical transcriptionist creates records based on a recorded conversation from a medical professional. The information may also arrive in note form or even live. Your job is to record, organize and format the information so it can be referenced at a later date. The work requires excellent language and typing skills. Since you will be dealing with people’s health records, a commitment to accuracy is essential. The records you create will be used by other healthcare workers, possibly for medical treatment. Resident Care Attendant

You will learn how to assist the elderly with daily requirements, such as bathing, toileting, getting in and out of bed, eating and grooming. Our instructors include registered nurses with extensive geriatric and teaching experience, and all our staff members are thoroughly professional and dedicated to excellence. Spa Esthetician/Aromatherapist

This diploma program is designed for those who wish to work in the growing field of wellness and spa therapy practice in spas, aromatherapy clinics and aromatherapy retail, as well as the exploding field of contract practice for businesses and hotels. Individuals completing this program will complete lessons in esthetics, aromatherapy and reflexology, including mastering the techniques of chair and table spa and aromatherapy massage. Graduates will be eligible for membership in the Reflexology Association of British Columbia (http://www.reflexologybc.com/) and will be eligible for registration in B.C. as a Registered Aromatherapist. Veterinary Hospital Assistant

Students in the Veterinary Hospital Assistant program gain knowledge and skills that prepare them for employment in a variety of animal facilities, including veterinary hospitals, pet stores, breeding kennels, animal not-for-profit organizations, boarding kennels, and animal emergency and critical care clinics.
