With 19 students as the average class size, STMU offers phenomenal classroom engagement providing a solid education. Students can ask questions more openly, and have a closer one on one relationship with faculty and staff. One on one advising is available for all current students and STMU also offers full guidance to each of their prospective students.

STMU’s commitment to their students extends into their financial aid programs. Nearly 1 out of every 10 students receives a scholarship or bursary. The Exceptional High School Entrance Scholarship is a key example of how STMU works with each applicant to help them fulfill their dreams of higher education. The award grants students with an 80% grade point average or higher up to a $1,000 off tuition. Students entering with 90% or greater are rewarded up to $2,000 off tuition.

Jared Craig graduated from STMU with a BA concentrated in English. He credits his success in life to the direction that he found at STMU. “It was the decision I made to attend St. Mary's that changed my life,” says Jared in a recent interview by STMU. “While education is becoming less personal, and more practical, there are those who would claim that a degree from a liberal arts university college is not a good investment. To me it was the greatest investment [because] the most important thing I learned at  St. Mary's is that you can do anything you want to do, if you work at it.” The success that Jared epitomizes is felt throughout the community at STMU.

Jared has taken the lessons he learned at STMU to heart by already finishing his first year of Law School at the University of Saskatchewan. He returned this fall to complete his degree after working for Fraser Milner Casgrain, a law firm in downtown Calgary, this past summer.

“It has been difficult to reconcile the deep truths that I learned at St. Mary’s with the fast paced and pragmatic rush of busy law-firm life,” says Jared. “It is easy to question how these two worlds fit together. I have learned however that these two worlds are not separate. Consider the study of history, art, philosophy and great works of literature. These are things that many would claim are interesting but not useful; however, when one studies these human expressions, one learns what it is to be a human being.”
